Why Lentera Keluarga

What considered family law practice actually looks like

The differences between legal practices are rarely visible from a website. Here we try to be specific about what sets our approach apart — and honest about what we do not claim to offer.

Six things that shape our work

Competitive advantages rooted in deliberate choices

Sessions That Run as Long as Needed

We do not bill by strict fifteen-minute slots. A first consultation at Lentera Keluarga is scheduled for ninety minutes, with room to continue if the situation is complex.

Documents Written to Be Read

Every agreement and plan produced by Lentera Keluarga is drafted in plain English, reviewed with the client sentence by sentence, and only finalised when both parties fully understand what they are signing.

Civil & Syariah Jurisdiction Clarity

We advise on which legal system governs your matter and coordinate with Syariah practitioners where needed — so you receive a coherent picture, not a partial one.

The Whole Family in View

Our estate and settlement plans consider minor children, elderly parents, and blended-family dynamics — not just the immediate dispute between two adults.

Agreed Fees Before Work Begins

Our service fees are fixed and agreed in writing. Clients are not presented with bills that differ from what was discussed at the outset.

Optional Annual Review

Estate plans are offered with an optional yearly review, so documentation stays current as family circumstances change — without requiring a new engagement each time.

In Detail

Each benefit, explained plainly

Expertise

Fourteen-plus years in Malaysian family and personal law

Our principal solicitor has spent over fourteen years working exclusively in family and personal law in Malaysia. That depth of focus means she has encountered the unusual scenarios — contested EPF nominations, conversion-related custody disputes, multi-generational estate conflicts — and can advise on them without needing to research from scratch.

Malaysian Bar certified practising solicitor
Specialist knowledge of both civil and Syariah family proceedings
Annual continuing professional development in family law updates

"Experience in family law is not just about knowing the statutes. It is about recognising the moment when a client needs more time to think — and making room for that."

— Rashidah Azmi, Principal Solicitor

How we manage your matter

Encrypted digital client files stored on secure Malaysian servers
Online appointment scheduling with confirmation reminders
Digital document delivery in PDF format — readable on any device
PDPA 2010-aligned data handling across all client records
Technology

Practical tools, applied to a human process

We use technology where it makes the client experience genuinely better — secure file storage, digital document delivery, and online appointment scheduling — but we do not use it as a substitute for direct conversation. Every substantive legal discussion happens face to face or by telephone, not through a chatbot or automated questionnaire.

Service

A practice that answers its phone

It should not be unusual for a legal practice to return calls within one working day, but our clients tell us it often is. We set a standard for ourselves: enquiries acknowledged within one working day, and client messages answered before the end of office hours on the same day wherever possible.

Value

Fixed fees, explained before the work begins

Open-ended hourly billing can leave clients uncertain about what they will ultimately owe. Our services are priced as fixed engagements — agreed in writing at the outset. If a matter turns out to be more complex than initially expected, we discuss any fee adjustment before, not after, the additional work is done.

What Sets Us Apart

Distinctive features of our practice

A Session That Helps You Decide — Without Pressure

Our pre-filing consultation is structured to help a client think through their situation, not to funnel them into formal proceedings. Many clients use it to step back from a difficult moment rather than to escalate.

Coordinated Referral to Syariah Practitioners

We maintain working relationships with established Syariah family law practitioners in Kuala Lumpur. Where a client's matter requires Syariah court proceedings, we provide a warm referral — not a generic redirection.

Blended-Family Expertise

Estate and settlement work for blended families — with children from prior relationships, stepparents, and competing inheritance expectations — requires care that goes beyond a standard will or asset division. We work through these situations methodically, not hastily.

A Written File You Can Keep

Every engagement concludes with a clear written record — the documents produced, the decisions made, and the next steps agreed. Clients leave with something they can return to, not just a recollection of a conversation.
