Terms & Conditions

These terms govern your use of our website and the basis on which Lentera Keluarga provides family law services. Please read them carefully before engaging our firm.

Last updated: 10 March 2025

By using the website at lenterakad or by engaging Lentera Keluarga for legal services, you agree to the terms set out below. If any part of these terms is unclear, we welcome you to contact us before proceeding.

1. About Lentera Keluarga

Lentera Keluarga is a family law practice operating from Suite 5A, Jalan Sultan Ismail, 50250 Kuala Lumpur. Our solicitors are members of the Malaysian Bar and are bound by the Legal Profession Act 1976 and the Rules of the Malaysian Bar.

References in these terms to "we", "us", or "the firm" mean Lentera Keluarga. References to "you" mean any person visiting our website or engaging our services.

2. Use of Our Website

2.1 Permitted Use

You may access and browse our website for your personal, non-commercial use. The content on this site is provided for general information only and does not constitute legal advice. Reading this website does not establish a solicitor-client relationship between you and Lentera Keluarga.

2.2 No Reliance

The descriptions of legal services, processes, and Malaysian law that appear on this website are provided in good faith as general guidance. They may not reflect every applicable rule, regulation, or individual circumstance. You should not act on anything contained on this website without first obtaining specific legal advice from a qualified solicitor.

2.3 Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • use this website for any unlawful purpose;
  • copy, reproduce, or republish our content without written permission;
  • introduce any virus, malicious code, or disruptive technology to our website;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of our systems.

3. Engagement of Legal Services

3.1 Commencement of the Client Relationship

A solicitor-client relationship with Lentera Keluarga commences only when we have issued you a formal Letter of Engagement and you have returned a signed copy. Submitting a contact form or attending a preliminary consultation does not by itself create a binding engagement.

3.2 Scope of Services

The services we agree to provide are defined in the Letter of Engagement for your specific matter. Any changes to the agreed scope will be confirmed in writing. We will not undertake work outside the agreed scope without your instructions.

3.3 Client Responsibilities

To enable us to act in your best interests, you agree to:

  • provide complete, accurate, and timely information relevant to your matter;
  • promptly inform us of any changes in circumstances that may affect your case;
  • attend meetings and appointments within a reasonable time of agreed schedules;
  • settle invoices within the timeframe set out in the Letter of Engagement.

We will not be responsible for adverse outcomes arising from incomplete or inaccurate instructions provided by you.

3.4 Confidentiality

All information you share with us in connection with your matter is treated as confidential. Our solicitors are bound by professional rules of confidentiality under the Legal Profession Act 1976 and the Rules of the Malaysian Bar. We will not disclose your information to any third party except as required to conduct your matter or as set out in our Privacy Policy.

4. Fees and Billing

4.1 Fee Basis

Our fees are set out in the Letter of Engagement. Where a fixed fee is agreed, it covers the specific scope described. Additional work falling outside that scope will be quoted separately. All fees are in Malaysian Ringgit (RM) and are subject to the applicable rate of Sales and Service Tax (SST) where required by law.

4.2 Disbursements

Out-of-pocket expenses reasonably incurred in the conduct of your matter — including court filing fees, registration fees, and courier charges — will be charged at cost. We will inform you in advance of any disbursements exceeding RM 200.

4.3 Payment Terms

Invoices are payable within fourteen (14) days of the date of issue unless otherwise agreed in writing. We reserve the right to pause work on a matter where invoices remain unpaid beyond that period.

5. Intellectual Property

All content on this website — including text, layout, graphics, and the Lentera Keluarga name and identity — is the property of Lentera Keluarga or its licensors. You may not reproduce, distribute, or adapt any content without prior written consent from us, except for your own personal, non-commercial reference.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by Malaysian law, our total liability to you in connection with any matter shall not exceed the total professional fees paid by you to us for that matter.

We will not be liable for any loss or damage that:

  • arises from your failure to follow our advice or to provide complete instructions;
  • results from events beyond our reasonable control;
  • arises from your reliance on general information on our website rather than on specific legal advice from us.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be excluded under Malaysian law.

7. Termination of Engagement

Either party may terminate the engagement by giving reasonable written notice. The firm reserves the right to cease acting in circumstances where there is a conflict of interest, where continuing the engagement would breach professional rules, or where invoices remain materially overdue. In such circumstances, we will take all reasonable steps to minimise disruption to your matter and to facilitate the transfer of your file.

8. Governing Law and Disputes

These terms and any engagement undertaken by Lentera Keluarga are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from these terms or from our services shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia. Where a dispute relates to our professional conduct, we will also be subject to any applicable procedure of the Malaysian Bar.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date shown at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of our website after any such update constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. Changes to the terms of a specific engagement will be made in writing and will not take effect without your agreement.
