How do I know whether I need a lawyer at this stage?

Many people come to us before they have made any decision at all. A first consultation can help you map out what your options actually are — which sometimes means discovering that formal proceedings are not necessary. There is no obligation to proceed further after the initial session.

Does Lentera Keluarga handle Syariah family matters?

We advise on the intersection between civil family law and Syariah proceedings, and we work closely with practitioners who specialise in Syariah court matters. During a consultation we will clarify which jurisdiction governs your situation and, where needed, refer you accordingly.

How long does property division drafting typically take?

It depends on the complexity of the assets involved. For most couples with straightforward property and EPF matters, we can produce a draft agreement within two to three weeks. More involved situations — particularly those with business interests or properties in multiple names — may take longer, and we will be clear with you about the timeline from the start.

What does a Settled Family Estate Plan cover?

It draws together your will, EPF nominations, any trust arrangements for minor children, and provisions for elderly parents — all reviewed in one sitting and documented in a clear written file. It is particularly suited to blended families or those with responsibilities across two generations. We offer an optional annual review to keep the plan current.

Is what I share with you confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed with our firm is subject to legal professional privilege and the confidentiality obligations of the Malaysian Bar. We do not share your information with third parties except where you give us express instruction to do so, or where required by law.

Can I bring a family member to the consultation?

Certainly. Some clients prefer to come alone; others find it helpful to have a trusted person with them. Please let us know when you book so we can arrange an appropriate room. If both spouses wish to attend together for an exploratory discussion, we can accommodate that too, subject to a brief conflict-of-interest check.
