Our Approach
How a Lentera Keluarga engagement typically unfolds
First Contact
You send an enquiry or call. We respond within one working day and schedule a time that is convenient for you — including Saturday mornings where needed.
Initial Consultation
A ninety-minute session to understand your situation in full. We outline the options available under Malaysian law without steering you toward any one of them.
Engagement & Drafting
If you decide to proceed, we agree the fee in writing and begin drafting. Documents are shared with you in plain English for review at each stage — not presented as a fait accompli.
File & Follow-Up
On completion, you receive a clear written file. For estate plans, we offer an optional annual review. For all other matters, we remain available for follow-on questions.
Pre-Filing Family Consultation
A reflective first session for clients who have not yet decided whether to commence formal proceedings. We walk the client through the realistic landscape of options under Malaysian law — civil family proceedings, Syariah family proceedings where applicable, and informal settlement — and help the client think clearly about what would actually serve their family best.
Many clients use this session to step back from a difficult moment rather than to rush into court. There is no pressure to proceed further. The session is complete in itself.
What this session covers:
- Overview of civil and Syariah family law options applicable to your situation
- Realistic assessment of likely processes, timelines, and costs if proceedings are commenced
- Informal settlement options and when they are appropriate
- Questions specific to your circumstances — children, property, elderly dependants
- Written summary of the key points discussed, provided after the session
Duration: 90 minutes · Location: Suite 5A, Jalan Sultan Ismail · Saturday appointments available
Typical timeline: 2–4 weeks · Includes client review sessions · All documents in plain English
Property Division & Matrimonial Asset Drafting
Considered drafting of property division agreements between separating spouses, with careful attention to jointly held real estate, EPF balances, family savings, and any business interests. We seek workable arrangements that respect both parties' contributions and the long-term welfare of any children.
Documents are prepared in plain English and reviewed with the client at an unhurried pace. We do not consider a draft complete until both parties understand what is being agreed.
This engagement includes:
- Assessment of all jointly held assets, including real estate, EPF, and savings accounts
- Drafting of a property division agreement in plain English
- Review session with client before any document is finalised
- Consideration of children's welfare and longer-term financial needs
- Business interest considerations where applicable
Settled Family Estate Plan
A long-form engagement that coordinates the client's family law matters with their wills, EPF nominations, and longer-term arrangements for elderly parents and dependent children. Suitable for clients in blended-family situations or those caring for multiple generations.
The plan is documented in a clear written file and reviewed annually at the client's option — so that it stays current as family circumstances change, without requiring a new full engagement each time.
The estate plan covers:
- Will drafting and review, including provisions for minor children
- EPF nomination update and coordination
- Trust arrangement assessment for blended-family situations
- Provisions for elderly parents and multi-generational dependants
- Optional annual review to keep the plan current
Suitable for: blended families, multi-generational households, recently separated parents · Includes optional annual review
